VinoTeca carries wine from all over the world, but our heart lies in Spain. We got our start through Barcelona Restaurant and honor this relationship this weekend by going back to our roots with a tasting of traditional wine regions of Spain.
We start in Catalonia in the region of Penedès, the heart of Cava with Navaran Dama Vintage Brut. This area creates Spanish sparkling wines through methode traditional with the classic varietals of Xarel-lo, Macabeo, Parillada, and Chardonnay.
Our next wine if from the most well known winemaking region - Rioja. The history of this region dates back to ancient roots and has had continuous production since. Tempranillo is the king grape of Spain and in Rioja it is commonly blended with Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo. The D.O. of Rioja has strict guidelines and commonly uses American oak for production. 2011 Bodegas Vivanco Reserva is the wine that we will focus on to represent this great place.
Ribera del Duero is the third region we will feature. This area also focuses on Tempranillo, but rarely blends in other varietals. Ribera del Duero is located north of Madrid, high on the plateau of Castile y Leon and also has roots over 2000 years old, but was brought to life by French monks. Our R del D wine is Bodegas Áster Crianza, a classic, full bodied representative.
