If there was a wine that carried a lot of AKAs, it would be Carignan. Born in Spain, the grape also has ties to France and is emerging strongly in the USA. In Rioja, it is known as Mazuelo and blended with Tempranillo for elegant spicy reds. Across the country in Priorat, it’s referred to as Samso where it is blended with Garnacha for terroir-driven boldness. This weekend we will travel across countries to experience this chameleon red grape in all its glory.
